The Society's 2007 Annual Conference: Leading in Corporate Governance
The Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals held their 61st annual conference in Colorado Springs from June 27 to July 1, 2007. http://www.governanceprofessionals.org/conf07.pdf
The conference was attended by more than 350 delegates and was held at The Broadmore, a luxury resort that offered every imaginable amenity amid the beauty of the Colorado rocky mountain landscape.
Many of the delegates brought spouses and children and the conference organizers took great care in planning family centred events. In fact, of all the conferences Q4 attended this month (including both the CIRI and NIRI annual conferences) the Corporate Secretaries conference seemed very family-oriented and served as a the lead-in to a vacation for many.

In our informal survey of attendees many were attracted to the conference because of the location, the family aspect, the opportunity to network with peers and to keep abreast of of corporate governance practices. This year there seemed to be a specific focus on best practices in executive compensation and proxy solicitation. Many attendees were also interested in learning about the latest in corporate governance technologies and services from conference exhibitors.
Sessions at the conference often utilized a retrospective/lessons learned approach with in-depth examinations of a number of high-profile corporate scandals such as Enron and South Health. Q4 was able to attend many of the sessions and found them interesting.
The Q4 suite of disclosure management solutions was seen as very innovative and led to the development of numerous contacts at the conference.
